Rowing, or Crew, is a sport with oars and boats called shells. There are two types of boats, sculling and sweeping.

On our team, we typically have a few weeks with both novice and varsity members on Sculling boats so that new members can get used to the boat without the fear of tipping.

Our team races a variety of boats, such as: 8-men's (N + V combined) 8-women's V / 8-women's N 4-men's V / 4-men's N 4- women's V / 4-women's N Varsity pair (both men + women) ** N being novice, V being Varsity**

There are different positions depending on what boat you are on. An 8-seat boat has a Coxswain, Stroke seat, Bow seat, Port, and Starboard. A pair, in comparison, has only Stroke seat and Bow seat, with the bow typically steering the boat.

Rowing

Coxswain : 'Leader', in control of steering and encouraging the rowers during both practices and races ~ Stern Pair (8+7) : 'Rhythm', sets a consistent rhythm to allow all rowers behind to follow Powerhouse (6,5,4,3) :'Power', brings the most push and speed to the boat Bow Pair (2+1) : 'Balance', more technical and adapts to movement from the boat after each stroke Port : Right side of the boat, RED on our oars Star : Left side of the boat, GREEN on our oars
